Craig Greenfield tells the story of his journey, along with his family and friends, of learning to live a subversive life. Their journey takes them from the slums of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, to Vancouver's Downtown Eastside and back to Cambodia.
It's a jounrey of learning to practice the type of lifestye that Jesus speaks about. A life of justice, mercy and faithfulness in a very broken, messed up world.
Sometimes we think it is easier to live in poverty in a developing country, but what struck me about "Subversive Jesus" is how they lived in the poverty and drug centre we call the Downtown Eastside in Vancouver BC.
And yet as Craig, his family and friends live in a way that is rooted in the life of Jesus and very much in opposition to North American culture, they see changed lives.
This is a book well worth reading.
